My Sun
Sophia Kim His warm wrinkled hand held mine His smile Shone like a million sunbeams Chaining together to create the brightest grin The sun showed me its beauty within him My grandfather Who let me absorb his comforting warmth Had endless energy He smiled at me as I tugged his buttons, whining to play, Oblivious to time who played against us As the sun went down to every summer day Bringing the return of abrupt darkness And with that darkness, came time Time ate away at my grandfather’s light As did darkness, taking away His memory My grandfather, who no longer wanted to play Who frowned as I tugged on buttons on his shirt Whose wrinkled hands felt cold as I grasped them My grandpa who once was the sun No longer remembers what he once was |
