What Makes Us Human
Alice Qian what makes a human? are we featherless bipeds, put here by a god who’s been forgotten? are we born to be good? are we born to be heroes? to give ourselves up a thousand times over, if only to spare one little spider. are we destined to help, even against our instincts, that poor hopeless soul in its time of need? are we born to be bad? are we born to be villains? to leave destruction for the greater good of ourselves and in our path we leave behind countless broken families whose lives we shattered with empty promises. to “never forget” and change the future. are we here with a purpose or here by mistake? are we here to help or to just survive another day? but in the end, who’s to say we’re good or bad? it’s a call that can't be made by you nor me. even after we are shown the chaos left behind, we still choose to see our world through rose-colored glasses. this is the nature of a human being. |
